The Mississippi River is one of the nation's most important ecological assets. Its watershed covers 41 percent of the continental U.S. and forms a globally significant flyway providing diverse habitat for more than 325 species of birds. America’s River is also a national treasure of tremendous cultural and economic importance. But decades of mismanagement have taken a grim toll on the Mississippi and its surrounding ecosystem, including the river's fast-eroding delta and marsh complex in Louisiana. Join us we work to protect the Mississippi River for birds, other wildlife, people and communities.
Do you like being outdoors, have a love for environmental science and enjoy teaching people about nature? Would you be interested in giving history tours through an antebellum home? Or simply greeting visitors? Maybe you would like to be an insider at one of Audubon's biggest festivals, the Hummingbird Migration Celebration? Volunteering with Strawberry Plains is an excellent way to give back to your community and a great place to share and gain valuable skills.
Together, we can create a world in which birds, other wildlife and people can all thrive. Whether it's through our national network of chapters, our nature centers and sanctuaries or through Audubon's many scientific, educational and advocacy programs, we will help you to make a difference in your home, backyard and community. Thank you for joining Audubon!
